Corporate Greed
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 12:09 AM by 7horses
A friend of my family owned a sock mill in a small town in Alabama.
They had two major outlets for the socks they made. Walmart and J. C. Penney.
They employed hundreds of people in this small town.

Walmart told them that they would have to move their plants out of the country to a
country in Central America, in order to keep the Walmart business. This would mean that
all of the employees would lose their jobs. The owners of the business couldn't survive
with only the J. C. Penney's account. The owners told Walmart that they would not move to
the Central American country.

In the end, the owner found a company in Canada that agreed to buy the company and keep
it there in the Alabama town. They would keep about 300 workers in their jobs making socks
for J. C. Penny.

This is another example of how Corporate greed has pushed jobs out of the country and has caused
Americans to lose jobs. Walmart did the damage, but the company owners will get the blame for
the 500 people who will lose their jobs.

We need to listen to John Edwards and spread the word about corporate greed and its results.

Vote Edwards!!!!

2. I think we need a "corporate greed and malfeasance stories" forum...
...to contain all these stories that illustrate so well why we NEED Edwards in the White House.

8. Walmart’s tactics
I think it was a program on Sixty Minutes a while ago that
explained how Walmart gets their low prices. In bargaining
with a supplier, a Walmart buyer cares not a whit about the
bottom line of the supplier. Walmart contracts are BIG for all
suppliers and for the little guy they are make or break deals.
Walmart virtually dictates the price of the products that they
want. If you, the supplier, cannot meet their price, too bad.
I do not shop at Walmart and have tried to convince my friends
not to. American consumers do not understand how patronizing
Walmart amounts to cutting their own throats - they are
focused on a low price and that is it. It does not matter,
either, that a next-door neighbor may be forced to work at
Walmart and have similar experiences to those of Barbara
Ehrenrich as detailed in her book, Nickeled and Dimed to
Death.

9. Yes...
It is sad that so many people cannot see the harm Walmart has done. As you say, most people only care about price. Sad.
