SPAM candidates hit CA Recall

A CA web site is urging 1000's of Californians to run for governor to overwhelm election officials with up to 1,000 names. That could exceed the number that fits on ballots and force the Oct. 7 election to be delayed.

:shrug: It is great for the corporate interests, and terrible for the average person. One of the dinos running is a cigarette company executive running on ending guess what?...state "cigarette taxes."

This would be great for the educational and healthcare needs of a state that has a growing deficit and few remaining places to raise revenue.

3. I actually think that's quite a good idea

There's something very elitist about a ballot design that cannot accommodate an near-arbitrary number of candidates and propositions. And, equally, something very attractive about the idea that people could start thinking that they, too, could stand for election...even if they're not millionaires.

I think this would be a net benefit to democracy, even if it is (as it might be) a self-serving 'black op' on Davis's part.
