I saw that Musgrave won his primary

Have any of the other races been called yet?

1. I don't think any other races have been called. We have a number
of African-American candidates running on the statewide level. Gary Anderson is running for state treasurer and has an excellent shot at winning. Barbara Blackmon is running for Lt. Gov and has a good shot as well.

I know it is hard for people to believe, but every once in a while, race is not always the issue in political campaigns. For an old timer like me, it warms the cockles of my heart to see black candidates enter the political fray. I remember the old days.

2. my ballot was probably not counted
I got smart and voted in the republican primary.

In the past:

I got my absentee ballot for general election 2000 on a Saturday at 11:30 AM.

Newspaper said it had to be "returnedby mail" by noon that same day.

Neighbors who voted in the Republican primary had gotten their absentee ballots a week sooner and had plenty of time to fill out and return them.

I learned my lesson.

I vote Republican in the primary, so officials will send my ballot out in time for me to vote in the general election.

Voted against Haley (took communist Chinese money through Taiwan business fronts) Barber \BTW
(He pled 'no contest' in a plea bargain)

Mao's man in Mississippi= Haley Barber!

4. Musgrove (D) v. Barbour (Puke) in the general election
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 09:46 PM by dbaker41
No surprise there. However, what I find encouraging is that Musgrove won his primary race (i.e., they're calling it) with over 70,000 votes, while Barbour got the Puke nomination (likewise, calling it) with only 40,000 or so votes. This was with about 35% of the precincts in. I hope this means there are more Dems who give a damn about voting, and could bode well for the general election.

7. Final Totals in Gov Race
From the Clarion Ledger:

Musgrove won with 363,817 votes.

Barbour won with 125,156 votes.

That means a WHOLE LOT MORE Dems voted in the primary than Pukes. I hope this is encouraging news. Barbour would be a disaster, but I wouldn't put it past him at all to try some dirty tricks in November.
