Communists within the party
Hey everyone, I actually just kind of stumbled apon this article and many others and was just wondering if it were true. If so it doesn't really bother me as I am pretty far left and do agree with some principles of socialism.

4. No I have no problem with socialism
I like a lot of it and agree with you. I was just wondering if historically socialists have played a roll within the party.

5. What year was this the 1930's?
This seems to be back in the 1930's...there were also Republicans associated with socialists and communists decades ago like Robert LaFollette and some other ones. The communists were always marginalized up until the point Stalin got nervous about Hitler invading him, at that point he told all the European and US communists to dump what they were doing and get behind anyone who was against Hitler.

7. It should also be noted that, up til about the Depression
what we think of as Rep and Dem ideologies belonged to the other party (i.e., the Dems were the bad guys)

9. Sounds like McCarthism
Communism is about sharing. I think most people would agree with the idea of sharing. To the extent that the wealth in America is being shared, America is communistic. It's the word that is a problem. Communism is a scare word or an attack word. The Republicans mostly uses it to put down Democratic ideas of lifting the lower clases and making the upper classes pay their fair share. I know a great many activists and I have yet to meet one who considers himself or herself a communist.
