S.D. Congressman Involved in Fatal Crash
S.D. Congressman Involved in Fatal Crash

The Associated Press
Sunday, August 17, 2003; 12:16 PM

TRENT, S.D. - Rep. Bill Janklow was driving a car that hit a motorcycle and killed its rider at a rural intersection, state officials said Sunday.

Janklow, 63, a former four-term governor who is in his first congressional term, suffered minor injuries but didn't require medical attention, said Col. Dan Mosteller, the head of the state Highway Patrol.

Mosteller said the investigation was continuing, and it wasn't immediately clear whether charges would be filed.

The car hit the motorcycle near Trent, about 25 miles north of Sioux Falls.

Randolph E. Scott, 53, of Hardwick, Minn., was pronounced dead at the scene, Mosteller said. He was not wearing a helmet, Mosteller said.

1. Yes, He's a Republican
Janklow is South Dakota's only Congressman, and he's a member of the GOP, in case you were wondering.

5. Wait
A person died and we're asking about political ramifications? Doesn't seem right.

6. I agree
Especially when there is no evidence of any wrongdoing right now.

7. so far , seems like a terrible accident
it seems like it was just a horrible accident with no one really at fault. at least no fault on the congressman's part. i guess we will have to wait and see if more comes of it. and the guy not wearing a helmet probably had a lot to do with it.
