What Democrat could run against Janklow in SD
Given the closeness of the House we need to really concentrate on those races where we may have a better shot and like it or not the South Dakota house race has become competitive due to Rep. Janklow killing a motorcyclist apparently by running a stop sign.

Are there any Democrats who stand out who could make this a very competitive race?

6. That is a great way to lose
Maybe if we do that we can get a total of 10 votes.

3. Her name is Stephanie Hershaw
and she ran a pretty good race up there. If memory serves me correctly she's the daughter of an ex-Governor.

Stephanie Herseth

Not that it makes ANY difference, but she is absolutely stunningly beautiful. If I weren't gay...

Check out her old website...She is OUTSTANDING! God, please let her run again!

15. 46% ain't bad at all
Especially against someone with Janklow's long political pedigree. Seems to me that Herseth could win pretty handily given a bit of support (read: $$$).

5. It's Stephanie Herseth
Her father ran for governor and lost. Her grandfather was governor.

7. Herseth ran a strong race last time
And I really don't think Janklow will run again, after this.

9. A possible candidate
According to the Almanac of American Politics, Tony Dean (host of a popular TV program) is considering running.

12. Make sure it's the 2004 edition
the writer is Michael Barone, who's a Repuke stooge but fairly knowlegable (sp?) about these topics.

13. SD-AL
Herseth would be the best candidate here. I don't think that Janklow will run again, but Herseth could probably beat a Repuke without his huge name recognition. I (along with many others) was worried when Tom Daschle considered retiring in 2004. I couldn't think of anyone prominent enough to replace him. Herseth is talented and nearly took down a political giant in 2002. If elected, she could easily become the future of the South Dakota Democratic Party (and become a possible senator in 2010).

On another note, does anyone know how old Brooks Johnson (son of Sen. Tim Johnson) is? I know he's the only child of a sitting senator who fought in Iraq. Considering how often the children of politicians run for office (many times successfully), I wonder if he'll consider a race in the future?

14. Herseth the logical choice
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 12:29 AM by Doomsayer13
young, attractive, smart, and ran a surprisingly good campaign against an entrenched favorite last year, I think she would be a great rep for the Dems and South Dakota.
