Poll question: Who do you support in the PA Senate race?
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 03:07 PM by goobergunch
I've just been curious about this.

Hoeffel: http://www.hoeffel.house.gov/ (no campaign site yet)
Crystle: http://www.charliecrystle.com/
Specter: http://www.arlenspecter2004.org/
Toomey: http://www.pattoomey.org/

ON EDIT: You don't have to be a PA resident to vote.

2. Hoeffel's a free trader
and his letter to county chairs was all about how electable he thinks he is, not mentioning one issue or what he'd do if elected.

I'd rather vote for someone who wants elected to get something done besides step up the ladder.

3. Interesting primary race shaping up for Hoeffel's House seat.
I also support Hoeffel. We definitely need to hold on to his HOuse Seat. Two Dems that I know of are running for it. State Senator Allyson Schwartz has been endorsed by Emily's List. She will be opposed by State Representative/Dem. House Caucus Chairman Mark Cohen.

4. I like Schwartz.
Not my congressional district, but I've met her a couple times.

I haven't met Cohen myself.

5. I like Schwartz too...
I really wish she had been nominated against Santorum in 2000.

7. That is where the PA Democratic party really screwed up
But then again the PADems Party was controlled by the Casey camp and wasn't about to do anything to prevent one of their guys to get the nomination (Ron Klink).

Where PA Dems failed was allowing too many candidates including those who overlaped the same parts of the state. Tim Foley and Alyson Schwartz were both very popular candidates in the Philly region and unfortunately they split the vote and allowed for Western PA (and Casey Democrat) to get the nomination. Klink neither had the money or the support from Eastern PA to beat Rick Santorum (but he run a competitive race).

I was all gung-ho to help out in the PA dem primaries but when I saw anti-choice Ron Klink on the ticket, I just couldn't find the excitement to support him even though he was still a better candidate than Rick Santorum.

However 2004 is completely different than 2000. We have only 2 candidates running from 2 different regions of the country. Since both candidates have limited exposure outside of their area, I think the primaries will only help getting exposure for both candidates!

14. I've heard Schwartz's name mentioned here a lot
I think that she could really win the race for Hoeffel's seat. You're right, we definitely need that if we want any chance at winning back the House.

8. We get lurkers from time to time
But I would think that freepers would prefer a candidate like Pat Toomey since he's a Santorum wannabe.

9. Specter's not THAT bad
compared to Toomey that is. Maybe they thought that a vote for Specter would be in cognito.

10. Hoeffel
he's not perfect but he's still right on at least 90% of the issues and has the best chance.
