WI Senate: Michels Campaign Files Statement of Candidacy with Sec of State
8/19/2003

$200,000 Raised In First 15 Days; Official Announcement Expected Later this Year

BROWNSVILLE – Due to the overwhelming early support he has received for his potential candidacy for the U.S. Senate, Former Army Ranger and Michels Corporation Vice President Tim Michels announced today that he has filed a Statement of Candidacy and Statement of Organization with the Secretary of the Senate.

“The overwhelming response from the hundreds of people we have reached out to has made it necessary to make these filings,” said Michels. “I am humbled by the early support of so many people.” Federal law requires anyone considering a run for Congress who spends or receives more than $5,000 file the appropriate papers in Washington.

“We’ve raised $200,000 in the 15 days after we filed our Statement of Candidacy and our Statement of Organization,” Michels said. “While I have not yet officially announced my candidacy, I am encouraged by the response of the hundreds of community activists, business leaders, and everyday people I’ve spoken with across Wisconsin.

“The people I’ve talked to believe as my parents and I do: if you work hard, you can achieve anything,” Michels said. “My Dad started out with a pick-up truck, a beat-up backhoe and a handful of employees who weren’t afraid of work. My mom drove the dump truck. With the help of my brothers and me, our family now runs a company of almost 2,000 hard-working employees. People across Wisconsin want a Senator who knows how to create jobs.”

1. he is the candidate I fear most
against Feingold becuz of his personal fortune. I would much prefer Bob Welch the very conservative state senator running against Feingold.

2. I look forward to them having an expensive primary
and then Feingold winning in the end. Expect big business from out of state to contribute heavily whoever the GOP primary winner is. They fear Feingold in a big way.

3. Feingold
Feingold is the one of the best senators that Democrats have and we can't afford to lose him. I believe he will win this election.
