I know California is supposed to be a Democratic haven on the so called, "left coast" but alot of trends start in California which move eastward across the country. In California, especially among Democrats and non-partisans the War in Iraq is not all that popular and the longer we stay and the more casualties that come home in body bags the more unpopular it will get. According to the Field Poll:
Is the Iraqi War worth the toll?
statewide 49% say yes, worth the cost but 45% say No, not worth it. No opinion is 6%
Democrats by a solid 67-28 percent margin say it is not worth the toll.
Independents by a 50-45 percent margin say it is not worth the toll.
Even 20% of Republicans are coming to their sences and say it is not worth the toll.
As Usual men seem to be more in favor saying yes by a 60-38 percent margin. Women however, say it is not worth the toll by a 52-39 percent margin.
Bush's rating on how he is hanlding Iraq is also taking a beating. In April Bush had a 60/37 approval rating regarding his handling of Iraq and today it is down to 52/44. Once again it is Republican voters solid backing which keeps him in positive territory.
I think Bush is on shaky ground on many issues and Iraq could be cherry on top of the cake come November, 2004.
