New Dean campaign song
Hey! For all my fellow Dean supporters, and other people who are interested: I wrote a campaign song, and I thought it would be cool if someone could post it on the blog and then people could learn it and sing it at the sleepless summer tour and other campaign appearances. It is to the tune of "Little Pink Houses" by John Cougar Mellencamp. I am not sure what the rules are regarding use of the tune, but I am guessing that it is okay to pass around the lyrics and sing it to the tune as long as we are not selling a recording. So here goes:

He's an unknown
From a small state
Far from Capitol Hill

He's in a field of nine
And he started far behind
And nobody thought he had a prayer

But his supporters
They're believers
Givin' it all they've got
They dismiss anyone who says "he can't win"
'Cuz they're convinced that he's really got a shot

CHORUS:
Dean for America, for you and me
Dean for America, something to see
Gonna take back America, home of the free
We can do better now in this country

There's a young crowd
Disillusioned
He taps into their frustration
He's got some fresh ideas
And a message that's resonating
across the nation

Called his mama
And he told her
Said "mom, I'm gonna be president."
She just laughed and said "son,
that's a crazy dream"
But she ain't laughing now

CHORUS

Well there's pundits
And consultants
What do they know, know, know?
They look down on the insurgent
Because they're scared that he'll disrupt the status quo, ooh yeah

He's a winner
People-powered
He is the real deal

He'll put the Democratic Party back on track
To take
The White House Back

CHORUS x2

If everyone could try to find an mp3 or CD of the original song (to learn the tune) and try to learn at least the chorus for the sleepless summer tour, that would be great.

5. I don't know
I doubt it...and that is not the goal, though it would be awesome. My goal is to get a bunch of supporters to learn it and sing it.

7. This is mostly Kucinich's story - not Dean's. What a thief
First he steal's Wellstone's line. Then he pretends to be kucinich and turns Kucinich's life into a Dean song. By the way, "He can't win" is Dean's favorite attack line and he is the one using it on Kucinich. Next, Dean will start talking about how he was born in a log cabin.

8. When has Dean said that about Kucinich?
That he can't win? I have never heard him say it directly. Anyways, this is Dean's story because it talks about a candidate whom nobody believed in who defied everyone's expectations...so far Kucinich does not appear to have any more of a shot than he did a few months ago. I am not going to act toward Kucinich the way the establishment has acted toward Dean - I don't consider him a threat and I actually think he helps Dean by making him appear more mainstream, so I welcome his candidacy and have no desire to squalch it the way the establishment is desperate to stop Dean.

He probably has no idea this song exists.

10. Are you for real?
I'm sorry, but some of your accusations are getting really ridiculous! I write a song for the campaign and you accuse him of being a thief, as if he had anything to do with the song or even has any idea that it exists! When you start making ridiculous accusations like that it really undermines your case.
