Milwaukee JS: Dean keeping early energy with stop in Milwaukee
Great article about Dr. Dean!!

http://www.jsonline.com/news/state/aug03/164519.asp

Democrat Howard Dean, presidential long shot turned hot shot, embarked on a coast-to-coast swing Saturday meant to capitalize on his eye-catching success this summer raising money and boosting his profile.

snip

Dean's stop in Milwaukee was his second since June, one more than any other candidate. Wisconsin's Feb. 17 presidential primary lacks the prominence of next January's showdowns in Iowa and New Hampshire. But Dean's efforts in this state reflect both his early, Internet-fueled inroads and his transition from niche candidate to potential front-runner for the party's nomination.

snip

In an interview aboard his flight to Milwaukee, Dean said his campaign in the Midwest would focus intently on the loss of manufacturing jobs, what he called the "hollowing out of America."

"In the Midwest, that is the issue," he said. "I've just been stunned by it."

snip

Dean predicted that the Democratic message would resonate in the Midwest next year because of both the loss of jobs and discontent over the war in Iraq, which has been an issue central to Dean's insurgent candidacy.

snip

Dean said Saturday he did not think he needed to "moderate" his tone or message to succeed. He said if anything he planned to step up his criticism of the Bush administration on defense issues, from North Korea's weapons program to Saudi Arabia's support for Islamic fundamentalists and the fact "that we're not in control of our own destiny in Iraq anymore."

"This administration is completely driven by ideology; facts don't matter," he said in the interview. "So it's not surprising their performance is atrocious both abroad and at home."

2. Just Got Home from the Milwaukee Rally
Great band, and Dean is energetic. I'm also terribly impressed with how well organized his campaign is. They had a bunch of volunteers on laptops registering attendees (e-mail and zip code). Photos to follow when I figure that out.

3. I just got back, too
Really great rally, full of energy. One of the coolest things I saw tonight was a group of teenagers wearing tshirts with the name of a high school from a very conservative area & the words Young Liberals Club

My husband got to see Dean speak in person for the first time, & we both had a great time.:-)

Glad you could make it AnnabelLee. I had a schedule conflict, but recognize some of the meetup people in the pictures. I'm sure he'll be back as this state is early in the primaries. See you at the next meetup I hope.

6. Those young liberals are in our city/district!
I need to get in touch with them.

I was super-impressed by the nice behavior of the crowd. I was working the registration area, and a project that had the potential to go completely haywire went very smoothly -- I found out from Mike Tate that there was no rain contingency for the registration!

My husband also came, and although he's not going to endorse anyone (and he is committed to voting for another candidate in the primary, but the Democratic nominee in the general), he enjoyed the rally.

Didn't see you there, AL. But in a sea of 800+, it's not surprising. (I did run into my former boss, and -- Vince's primary opponent!)

7. I'm listening to the mp3 of the Falls Curch rally
This is amazing

"George Bush is sleeping soundly in Crawford tonight. And while he's sleeping.....We're gonna take our country back!"

"NK is going to be a nuclear power because George Bush won't talk to people he doesn't like"

-said with all the soul I've heard in the voices of other real leaders.

mp3 is a few entries down
