No re-redistricting in Illinois
Despite Republican attempts to force new congressional district maps through Texas and Ohio, House Speaker Michael Madigan says there is no way he'll turn the tables on the GOP in Illinois. The state's congressional delegation drew its own map in 2001, which protected all but one incumbent (former Congressman David Phelps). The resulting map gave the Republicans a 10-9 edge, despite the fact that Illinois Democrats control all three branches of state government and the state voted for Democrats in the last three presidential elections.

Texas and Ohio Republicans point to similar reasons for remapping Democrats out of the congressional majority, but Madigan said he wanted no part of it.

I'm slightly disappointed, but not too disappointed.

4. Good for Mike Madigan
he's proving to be a man of principle. We'll bide our time until 2010 before making IL into a full Democratic state.
