Presidential candidate boosts lead, raises record $15 million in 3rd quarter

LOS ANGELES - Howard Dean widened his fund-raising lead in the Democratic presidential contest by raking in a party record of nearly $15 million for the three-month period ending yesterday.

The former Vermont governor, who began the year as a long-shot outsider, is now in a position to close it out with more money than the other Democratic candidates. Over the past 30 years, the contender who has won the so-called "money primary" - by collecting the most cash in the year before the election - has nearly always gone on to become his party's presidential nominee.

I thought Dean was a Democrat. Did he change parties? Please explain.

He the article only stated that he is much more successful than other Democrats at raising campaign cash.

cash-starved little church mice? Howards raising money the way it should be raised; in small amounts from many voters across the country. He gives hope to future good, but cash-poor candidates.

And it's beyond me how people can chose to not see Dean's fundraising record for what it is: a true movement of the people taking back our government, washing away the power of the rich who can donate $2000 without blinking an eye. Power to the people!

The Internet fund-raising idea those guys came up with was pretty brilliant. $15 million is absolutely unreal, especially for the third quarter. I'm still not the biggest fan of Dean's, but that's one hell of an accomplishment.
