Some new Texas Re-redistricting info from Politics1.com (candidate list)
http://www.politics1.com/tx.htm

Major notes:

TX-5: Turner (D) (may not run) vs. Hensarling (R)

TX-10: Open Seat, vice Doggett (D).

Stenholm (D) may run in either TX-11 or TX-19 (against Neugebauer (R))

TX-24: Open Seat -> St. Rep. Marchant (R).

TX-25: Doggett (D) running here

TX-26: Frost (D) vs. Burgess (R)

Edwards (D) may run in either TX-17 or TX-31 (against Carter (R))

It's not pretty.

1. Goober
Any chance we could win any of these races?

I'm particularly interested in the Frost race.

2. The problem I have with analyzing these
is that I don't know where to find updated data regarding the 2000 breakdown in these districts. I do have a map, but Texas is so big that it's hard to look up all of the counties in question.

We'll win TX-25, but we'll probably lose TX-10 (I would guess). As for the Frost race (which I am also interested greatly in), TX-26 includes all of heavily Republican Denton County, part of Tarrant County that includes quite a bit of Frost's old district, and the eastern third of Cooke County, which is also heavily Republican (I think). So I'm not optimistic.

3. Frost was the main target of their map.
At least he's getting the most press. That's basically Burgess' district and it's likely Frost has little chance.

5. Thanks for the info goobergunch
And unfortunately, it isn't looking very likely that Turner will run again if this bill is upheld by the courts. He's a very conservative Dem, but the districts are so skewed that it's almost impossible for any Dem to win. Turner is one of the Dems from rural East Texas who is now in a district controlled by the wealthy suburban Houstonians. Ugh!

And although Lampson doesn't have an opponent yet, it's certain that he will. His district was redrawn from a very contiguous, compact district which voted about 55% Dem to yet another Houston controlled jigsaw puzzle piece that votes about 60% repub. He's probably lost to us as well.

Sandlin is probably toast too, as well as Frost and Edwards.

And Frodo, Frost wasn't the main target of the redistricting. EVERY Dem was the target, and the sole goal was control of the House.

6. Doggett has a primary battle
A Hispanic state representative is running against him in that district. I believe it is majority hispanic so Doggett might lose that primary. I hope he survives though. He is probably the best congressmen from Texas.
