CNN "Analyst" Bill Schneider: Bush-Suckling Pig
God, I despise Bill Schneider, who, of course, is pushing the Bush is gaining in the polls story. This is such blatant spin by a shameful water-carrier for BushCo. Aaarghh!

Bill Schneider: Schwarzenegger, stock market could be helping Bush

CNN's Bill Schneider

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Monday shows President Bush's approval rating moved back up, following a dip in September. CNN anchor Daryn Kagan talked with CNN's senior political analyst Bill Schneider about what these latest poll numbers mean.

KAGAN: Let's go right to the numbers. The first question that's in the CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, asking these people, do you approve of President Bush's handling of job as president.

SCHNEIDER: What you can see here, Daryn, in the middle of September, the president's job approval rating had dipped to 50 percent. Now that's the danger point, Democrats were waiting breathlessly for that number to dip below 50 percent, because then he would be in trouble for re-election

But what happened now, among all Americans, his approval has jumped to 56 percent, reversing trend, just in the nick of time.

1. He's not an analyst. He's an operative.

3. He's not just an operative, he's a major PNAC-AEI operative.
He's a senior fellow at AEI and a PNAC signator.

4. Earlier today
the AOL version of this story claimed his approval rating was 56% up from 44%. First of all, I do not recall seeing ANYWHERE that Bush's approval rating was as 44%. Regardless, we are talking about a 6 to 12 point jump depending on the report. For what? What happened to cause this? I don't know about anyone else, but I don't believe anything anymore. I certainly don't believe this.

5. Up or Down, it's all spin
The overall trends are what matter. Even here on DU, we make far too much of specific poll standings.

They're not meaningless, but their primary use these days is also political.

Bush's popularity could be down to 35%, but if some e-e-evil A-rabbs just happen to kill a bunch of Americans in the USA, it will bounce again. Which is why his propensity toward cloak-and-dagger politics is so frightening to me.

6. Notice this line
"But what happened now, among all Americans, his approval has jumped to 56 percent, reversing trend, just in the nick of time."

Just in the nick of time? How convenient. CNN/Gallup didn't do a single poll when Traitorgate broke, but did TWO the week of the recall when every negative story about Bush was overwhelemed by Arnold's win.

9. You have made some very good points
about the timing of the polls and I too think you are right about this.

Just in the nick of time blew my mind....that's those liberals for ya.
