GOP criticizes Democratic House candidate's Internet fund-raising

CHET BROKAW

Associated Press

PIERRE, S.D. - Republicans have accused Democratic U.S. House candidate Stephanie Herseth of maintaining a secret Web page to receive campaign donations raised from ads on liberal groups' Internet sites.

But a Herseth campaign official scoffed at the charge, saying the Web page is not secret and can be found easily with a standard search of the Internet.

Herseth faces Republican Larry Diedrich in a June 1 special election to fill the vacancy left when Bill Janklow resigned as South Dakota's lone member of the U.S. House.

Jason Glodt, executive director of the South Dakota Republican Party, said the Herseth campaign arranged the special Internet donation site to prevent most South Dakotans from knowing about Herseth's relationship with such liberal groups.

but I read Atrios everyday and he updates every once in a while. She has a chance - as far as I know he's only really pushing for donations to candidates who can win. There's no sense in pissing money away in such an important year.

Check out Kos, Atrios or some of the other lefty blogs - many of them are running fundraising ads for dems in key races. It's late and my head is kinda fuddled right now so I can't remember the name of the dem who won the special election a couple of months ago, but it was a thing of beauty - and blog fundraising had a LOT to do with his success.

Atrios has also declared every Thursday "John Kerry Turkee Day" and has raised over $100,000 in the last few weeks.

(turkee day is an inside joke that would take a while to explain...)

edited: His name came to me as soon as I hit post! LOL Ben Chandler!

3. If she kept the site secret how much money do they think she could have
brought in. No one would have known where the site is except for people she was closed to, which means there would be absolutely no reason to have a web site because it would'nt be seen by anybody. Do these people think or do they just say anything and hope know one notices.
