Greenspan: "... something will happen which is unexpected, which will knock us down,"

Yet he cautioned again that the elements for a downturn are in place, and reiterated his warning that a recession is more likely than not.

The key is human psychology, which cannot yet be measured well enough to predict without that prediction affecting the outcome by giving markets time to adjust and avoid recession, Greenspan said.

"What I have to forecast is that something will happen which is unexpected, which will knock us down,” Greenspan said. "The odds of that happening, I think, are rising, because we are getting in vulnerable areas.”

9. He's right.
There are key assumptions underlying some of the decision processes of the biggest employers, and the government's policies.

These assumptions might be way off, and if we get a major disaster it could ruin a lot of lives for a while.

Imagine a Katrina level disaster happening in Washington DC. As much as we pick on the idiots who run the government from there, it would cause chaos.

Imagine Houston's major ports becoming unavailable for several months.

Or a major quake knocking 1/3 of California offline for a while.

We don't have the infrastructure or "redundancy" of services to allow for a major disaster.

Can you imagine what would happen if the US wheat crop were to fail? Or a new corn killing bug?

These things would rock a strong country. They could knock us on our butt for a while since we're not exactly strong right now.

11. none of what you mentioned would be a problem
if we had a government by the people and for the people. there`s nothing that can kick us in the ass unless we let it.

13. No doubt.
We have the manpower and the brainpower to proactively solve a whole lot of problems.

It just has to be put to use.

12. Unexpected to Greenspan, maybe
but I could see it coming when Kennedy reduced the top marginal rate on the fattest of fat cats from 90% to 70%.

If Greenspan ever admits it's a crisis of maldistribution of wealth and not one of credit or liquidity or anything else, he'll be onto something and probably wiping his arse with pages of his well thumbed copy of "Atlas Shrugged."

Until then, his pronouncements are worth about what he'd be wiping.

15. Predicting a non-predictable
Greenspan's not exactly being specific here, is he?

The key IS human psychology, which the Masters of Illusion and Deception use to separate us from out money without prosecution. If they get their system in place to benefit from a recession, they will use psychology to put the scare into the consumer. As a result, consumers won't spend money, starting the domino effect which the press will pick up and report, and there you go...recession!

Greenspan knows how this works more than most. Maybe he's warning us that the pieces are in place?

16. He knows how this is likely to work out
because he spent over eighteen years creating this fucking mess. He sure knows how to speak Fed: nebulous vagueness with a twist of horoscope-esque nothing. Why would he warn us? He never gave a shit about you or me (unless you're a multi-millionaire - which I am not) He's just trying to make himself look important. It's his schtick. It worked for 18+ years and he doesn't know how to turn it off.

I apologize if this anger seems directed at you. It really is directed at that talking-butt-jelly, Greenscam.

17. Reality 101, you might say
and it will have much more to do with the grand farce that US fiscal management has become than any trumped-up foreign pseudo enemies...as Toynbee said, empires perish by suicide (while blaming everyone but themselves).

18. Fu#k you Greenspan!!!
It's not "human psychology" you god damned hack! You guys drove us into the ground. The rotten house of cards you filth built is falling. You built an economy of phony money, people indebted themselves, up to their ears, hoping for things to turn around. But there was no turn around, since your people systematically looted the heart and soul of this country. There was nothing to fall back on. Manufacturing was exported, so when the dollar fell on it's ass, exports couldn't save us. The ship "listed" and since it was poorly designed, it simply rolled over.

Rot in hell Greenspan...
