employment numbers are down

Housing sales numbers are down

The Christmas season wasn't that good

So when do they declare this a Recession?

to officially proclaim it until we are well into it...or so I understand from reading the "Economy Forum" on DU which, I might add, is a great place to learn economics.

... by the time a recession is identified, we are 6 months into it.

I think it's pretty safe to say that we are either in a recession or will be soon.

I'm guessing that would be right around January 21, 2009. It will be called the Obama (or Edwards) recession. Pundits will have hissy fits over the perilous state of the economy and demand that the Democrat party take action to end the business slump.
