Invest in jobs, not in money giveaway
As long as we are willing to spend money, instead of giving people a check for $300 or $600 - and expect them to go spending - like Bush did in 1992, purchasing a pair of socks - we should invest in our infrastructue.

We know that our roads and bridges are crumbling. We could also build a bullet train to connect airports, to entice people to take the train instead of a plane ride of less than 500 miles.

Such projects will generate jobs of all skill levels, jobs that cannot be outsourced.

Auto workers who lost their jobs at Ford or GM can find jobs that can better fit their skills in building roads and rails then in manning call centers or selling gutters and sidings, I would think.

As for tax rebate, if there is one: yes, the poor do not pay income tax, but they do get payroll taxes withheld from their paychecks (if they work.) So why not give them a "payroll taxes holiday" for, say, six months?

As for business rebates: I remember in the summer of 2003 Bush came to town and had a meeting with several business owners. One couple, owners of a graphic design service (or something similar, I do not recall) admitted that a tax rebate will be used to purchase a new machine. That, no, they were not planning on hiring anyone.

1. Dennis Kucinich...."Produce millions of middle class jobs with a new public works program..."

Produce millions of middle class jobs with a new public works program combining the infrastructure and energy needs of our country. A Works Green Administration (WGA) will come from joining a Works Program Administration with the Environmental Protection Agency.

3. Good for Dennis
Now, if he can travel to, say, Michigan and Ohio and get appearance on local radio or television stations.

He may not want to cross the picket line, but even appearance on any of the night shows could do him good. And, based at least on Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, they do scrap the bottom of the barrel.

6. You cannot tell a corporation how to run its business
except for complying with the laws. And sending tasks overseas is something that is with the prerogative of how the company wants to do business. This is something that we need to understand. We can pass tax incentives for corporations that limit outsourcing, but as long as our system is the "market base" there are limits on how we can micro manage corporations.

This is why investing in infrastructure can work.

7. is immigration subcommittee a corporation?
Edited on Sun Jan-20-08 12:39 AM by ornbudsman

it sure seems like it, but it's NOT

when I mean giving jobs to foreign workers, I mean foreign workers HERE

that's what I'm talking about

corporations do NOT have the right to auction off the right to be in the USA, that belongs to the PEOPLE

immigration levels, at least in theory, are set by the CITIZENS, not corporations

5. I was going to also post a DK plan
"So what I've done in my campaign is to advocate a full-employment economy. How do you do that? A new WPA-type program. We'll rebuild America's bridges, water systems, sewer systems, our libraries, our universities, our mass transit systems. And we do that with a program that I introduced legislation in repeated Congresses with the cosponsorship of a Republican from Ohio by the name of Steven LaTourette and the bill, HR 3400, provides for rebuilding America's infrastructure. And I would put millions of people back to work in good-paying jobs. I would put millions more back to work in new energy policies where we would design, engineer, manufacture, install and maintain wind and solar microtechnologies which would be retrofitted into tens of millions of American homes and businesses, driving down our carbon footprint and dramatically reducing our cost of energy. This would be a major development in America to take us away from a condition where America is leading the way towards the destruction of our global climate. I call this part of it the WG: a Works Green Administration, where we turn government into an engine of sustainability, where the whole government becomes about moving towards green. The transportation plan, mass transit, housing and development - it's about green housing, solar, natural lighting, using recycled material, the energy department stops incentivizing coal and oil and nuclear, and moves toward incentivizing wind and solar, bringing forward a whole generation of entrepreneurs just waiting to get into green energy solutions."
