4. You are such an adorable optimist.
Didja notice how close it was to the house next door?

Man, these Canadian bubble houses make California look real affordable.

Here is web site of other ...uhh..mansions...

17. OK, that was hilarious
The line of cops going into one of them was kind of a giveaway, though.

The crackheads need to realize the potential and clean up just enough to sell to gullible Asians with money to burn. They could stay high for the rest of their lives on the proceeds!

22. Hell of a business plan, actually.
And being that they are on crack, the fix up should be a fast job.
In fact, they should invite their meth buddies to come help.

21. There was an influx of Asians, particularly from Hong Kong
coming to Vancouver in the '80s and later, maybe there still is. They had (have?) a propensity to buy a house with a yard, tear everything down, and rebuild a monster house on the entire lot. This tended to irritate the neighbors to no end.

If "mansion" has the same meaning in Hong Kong as it does in Japan, then "Vancouver Mansion" would probably be an apartment building.

23. back when the Shah of Iran was deposed,
there was an influx of wealthy Iranians coming into Vancouver and Seattle.
That combined with the Californians, created the first housing bubble in the PNW.
I was there at the time, watched in amazement, met one Iranian family who were
buying 2-3 houses at a time and flipping them.
At that time, to me, 100 K was a small fortune for a house.

But now......jeebus.

marginal.

I hear the sound of a bulldozer.

24. Next up, Canada! The USD=Canadian dollar now...
>POP<
Oh Canada. Do you folks make that many exports and create high wage jobs?

There's parity between our currencies now, so that's actual USD cost of housing!

7. I don't think that's legit
Last month I cruised craigslist looking at property values in the provinces. Vancouver didn't seem any different from Seattle, really.

15. This house is very close to English Bay, if not on the waterfront
It probably has a view at least.

As for Seattle, I used to live there. A good view of the Sound, like on Magnolia Bluff or in the Sunset Park of Ballard, increases the price of a house by a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

9. It could be waterfront property or it's commercially zoned
Either situation would drive up the price dramatically, even if it's a tear down.

Its winters are much milder than any other major city in Canada.

16. Not surprising
A couple years ago I sent my father a pic of a run down dump quite similar to this in compton for 900,000. I wanted to show him why I hadn't bought anything in LA.

What is surprising is many in Vancouver will tell you there is no real estate bubble there.

Yeah, right.
