A living wage in North Carolina
On WUNC radio here in the Raleigh area there is going to be a discussion on "The State of Things" at Noon about the movement to raise the minimum wage to $10/hr.

http://www.wunc.org/schedule/

It sounds like it should be an interesting discussion. I would recommend all of us tune in to listen. Those who would prefer, or don't have a choice, can listen on your computer.

THe show will also be rebroadcast at 8 PM this evening.

1. Living Wage sounds great
The Carolinas really need it, since they have had to deal with offshoring for a long time, and the wages reflect that.

2. Offshoring.
It seems to me that a $10 minimum wage will encourage even more offshoring.

3. Deflation
It's going to take a while for the rest of the world to catch up. We are going to have to deflate to be competitive. Either that, or America becomes the "State" of the super rich and the rest of us become serfs. :argh:

4. Tariffs on imports to equal playing ground and save jobs
None to save in Haw River, NC. All gone to China.

When one hits on Mexico and Nafta please look at IMPORTS from Mexico and see how much of total is OIL. None from China just Wal-Mart items.

Nafta takes hit after hit and justifiably so. Nafta includes Canada. Where is hit on it.

A prosperous Mexico and Nafta would have been fair. Our exports exceeded imports under Nafta until--until--Peso tanked.

Go to Wal-Mart And find clothing made in Mexico!!. Go ahead.
