About those 288K "new jobs" created in April
Hmm, how many were "independent contractors" hawking:

Popcorn
Peanuts
Beer
Cotton Candy
Pennants
Other souvenirs

at the Baseball games that just started up?

Or, those that are cleaning up after said baseball games?

Also, cleaning up the amusement parks getting ready for what just might be another dismal season, because most of the newly employed are the ones working there (or at the ballparks) and can't afford to take their kids to the high-priced parks anyway?

Hmm, seasonally adjusting my crotch.

2. Worth noting
Bloomberg: "May 6 (Bloomberg) -- The number of Americans filing initial claims for jobless benefits dropped to 315,000 last week...The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure, fell to 343,250 from 347,000. "

http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000006&sid=awkRc9FWbRaQ&refer=home

So even though 288,000 jobs were created for the month, we LOST an AVERAGE of 343,000 jobs a week during April.

3. Does this mean that the economy then had a NET LOSS of jobs?

4. No. If it does then Clinton never created a job either.
Nor did Bush1, Reagan, Carter, etc. etc. etc.

The lowest that weekly filing number has ever been (at least in recent history)were a couple weeks in the 275,000 range.

So the best month showed a loss of about 1.1 Million jobs.

The highest the job creation number has been was two or three months in the 500k job range (really hardly a single month over 400k).

So the NET LOSS figure for Cliton's BEST month would be a LOSS of over 500k jobs?

I really don't think so.

5. You don't understand how this number works.

We had a seasonally adjusted NET gain of 288,000 jobs in April. So that means we created 288,000 more jobs than were lost.

The number you cite, which is initial claims for unemployment insurance rarely dips very far from where it is now. I think there were only a handful of months in the 90s that it went under 300,000.

*edited to say I didn't see Frodo's response when I replied.
