Bush was sure that Iraq’s oil reserves would be flowing again by now
http://www.sundayherald.com/42322

IN July 2002, the Pentagon’s Defence Policy Board was given a briefing by Laurent Murawiec of the Rand Institute. The advisory group of intellectuals and government officials heard Saudi Arabia described as the enemy of the United States. The Saudis were the “kernel of evil, the prime mover, the most dangerous opponent”.
The chairman of the board was Richard Perle, a former Pentagon official. Murawiec, in a lengthy presentation, did not outline White House policy. But his views were said to chime with key figures in the Bush administration such as Vice- President Dick Cheney, and the assistant secretary of defence, Paul Wolfowitz, writes James Cusick.

The presentation of this anti-Saudi analysis coincided with the growing neo-conservative debate inside President George W Bush’s administration on whether to move militarily against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.

Perle was one of the loudest advocates of war on Iraq. The briefing by Murawiec argued that removing Saddam would be a means to an end – the end being regime change in Saudi, which the briefing argued was a larger problem because of the way it financed and supported radical Islamic movements worldwide.

Another great article.

3. As far as I can tell, Iraqi oil is flowing right now..
There is a main port terminal which was sabotaged recently with a suicide bombing, but other than that the oil has definitely been flowing. I think estimates are that Iraq takes in $12 billion per year, which the US controls 100%.

The problems are much worse in the north, which is harder to control. There have been lots of sabotage on the oil pipeline; it reportedly costs Halliburton $1 million every time they have to repair it.

I think Bush was expecting to pump MORE oil, or that this whole thing would have been EASIER.

However, I'm starting to wonder about this Peak Oil thing. And why, for example, with Iraqi oil up and running, why did our gas prices almost double?

I smell a rat. I think they're planning to curtail production, or at least keep it low, so that when the other spigots are dry, they will be sitting on the worlds #2 supply of oil; 3 trillion barrels worth.

All THEIRS.

4. Peak oil is not about running out of oil....
its about running out of CHEAP oil...
Gaining control of the world's 70% "proven" reserves, would mean that
you have political leverage upon many nations. Of course, this is in
the short-term... Eventually, everybody decides that it sucks to be
blackmailed and being somebody else's whore.

What the US is doing is almost EXACTLY the same thing Nazi Germany
did when they went after Stalingrad: they went for the oil fields
to stay alive....and guess what happened at Stalingrad....

History IS peculiar IMHO...
