Pelosi lauds state, Bucks on clean energy

Calling Pennsylvania “America in miniature,” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi pointed out the clean power sources that the Keystone State — and Bucks County in particular — are implementing on the path to energy independence.

“You're ahead of the rest of the country,” Pelosi said Monday during a press conference at the former U.S. Steel site, now known as the Keystone Industrial Port Complex in Falls. “You're leading the way.”

Flanked by Congressman Patrick Murphy, D-8, Sen. Bob Casey and state Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen McGinty, Pelosi cited Pennsylvania's alternative energy strides, which call for higher percentages of electricity to come from clean energy sources by 2021.

The U.S. House recently approved a similar renewable energy standard, which calls for electric suppliers to provide 15 percent of electricity through clean energy sources like wind and solar by 2020. The U.S. Senate adopted an energy package that called for 36 million gallons of biofuels to be used by 2022.
