Fresno State switches on solar power

A new solar-paneled parking structure at California State University, Fresno, officially switches on during ceremonies Thursday.

Chevron Energy Solutions, a unit of Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) of San Ramon, and Fresno State will celebrate completion of the largest solar-paneled parking structure at a U.S. university.

The 1.1-megawatt solar installation will generate 20 percent of the university’s annual power needs, and enable Fresno State to save millions in avoided utility costs over the 30-year life of the solar power system, according to the university.
