State officials order windpower negotiations to continue

State officials have ordered Bluewater Wind and Delmarva Power to continue negotiating a contract to provide wind power for Delaware.

In a decision greeted with applause from dozens of gathered wind power activists, four state agencies charged with brokering a deal to provide a reliable, long-term source of power for Delaware told the companies to agree to terms by Monday, Dec. 10. The agencies will review the contract by Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Wind supporters crowded the regularly scheduled Public Service Commission (PSC) meeting Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Legislative Hall in Dover. Led by comments from former Gov. Russell Peterson, public comment strongly supported a Bluewater Wind proposal to build a 150-turbine wind farm.

“We in Delaware have a responsibility to create the first offshore wind park in the country. Let’s get on with the job,” Peterson said.
