Reed Promises City Services Will Be Cut In 2008

Save the city. Save the world.

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed promised to do both Wednesday morning.

During the annual State of the City address, delivered at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, Reed said the solution is the same to both San Jose’s budget problems and the planet’s climate change problem: "green technology."

Reed said his priority for the next year will be San Jose’s Green Vision, a plan he introduced and the City Council passed in 2007, which would ultimately create more than 20,000 jobs in the field of alternative energy such as wind and solar power. "San Jose must remain the capital of Silicon Valley, and Silicon Valley must remain the innovation center of the world," Reed said.
