Peak Oil and the Future Of Energy DemandTexas Monthly talks with two online energy experts concerning peak oil and the future of energy demand.
by Nicholas Jackson
Nate Hagens is an editor of The Oil Drum, an online community that seeks to raise awareness about energy issues. A Ph.D. candidate in Natural Resources at the University of Vermont, Hagens’s particular areas of interest are the principles of net energy and the bio-physiological factors that drive our energy demand.
Matt Savinar is the editor and writer of Life After the Oil Crash, a blog which paints a bleak picture of what life on earth will look like when natural oil supplies run out. The Last DropThe good news is that Texas has an incredibly detailed plan for how to deal with the looming shortfalls in every one of its major urban areas. The bad news is that you can’t drink a plan.
by S. C. Gwynne
Everybody remembers September 15, 2035. Just as they can tell you where they were on September 11, 2001, they can recall what they were doing 34 years later on the day that Dallas and Fort Worth ran out of water. It came at the end of a brutal five-year drought. The population had been multiplying like bacteria, residents had done little to conserve their water, and municipal governments had not spent nearly enough money on building new pipelines and reservoirs. Finally, on September 15, a Saturday, the big water suppliers announced that they were shutting down the pipelines. That was the day nothing came out of the faucet. That was the day everything still living withered and died...>

Hey Texas, what's your sign?
Capricorn.
And if you are into astrology, be sure to read the last paragraph of this article (given below)-
A quick primer - the planets Pluto and Jupiter will be transiting through Capricorn (Jupiter for about one year and Pluto for about 16 years). Jupiter is expansive, Pluto brings down the walls in order to rebuild out of the ashes...death and rebirth. Ought to be an interesting ride. I can imagine one major scenario along these lines is the bottoming out of the oil industry (in fact read the articles above about peak oil and water as well).
Excerpt from an article about a 36 year veteran of astrology, Nan Hall Linke, who lives in Texas:
...You wanted to know about the future of Texas, so I made a chart. Texas was born on December 29, 1845, which means that it is a Capricorn. What I did is I progressed the chart to 2008, to see where things were headed. What’s interesting is that Texas has the planet Jupiter in the sign Taurus, which rules agriculture and animal husbandry. What that says to me is that the future of our state is still in our land—whether it’s oil or wind farming or whatever. The strongest element in the state’s chart is earth, and it’s in a new moon, which is associated with leaders and pioneers, so we should see more innovation. None of that is very surprising. But something did amaze me when I looked at this. I said, “Well, if I didn’t know better, I’d say that this state is going to go Democratic!” Jupiter goes into Capricorn in 2008, and the last time Jupiter was in Capricorn, the state went Republican. Amazing, huh? That’s what astrology does. It helps us see the invisible.http://www.texasmonthly.com/2008-02-01/theworkinglife.php------
And I'm sure the end of the oil barons will be one such shift, along with BIG political/gov. changes. Perhaps our whole model of government will change.
The energy behemoths attempting to own the wind, the sun and the water will likely take their place unless people rise up against them.
And, perhaps, the latest stink about the Tx. Supreme Court Justices, and Gov. "good hair's" email debacle is just the raw beginnings of the take down.
Wouldn't Molly Ivins be proud!!!
