Farmers blamed for rising cost of food
I feel like a one-armed man in a jawboning contest. So much scape-goating, so little time...

Congressmen form both sides of the aisle point the finger at farmers for skyrocketing grocery prices, but oil prices are 'main culprit' says leader of National Farmers Union.

1. Why don't they attack the real culprit?

Investment speculators in the commodity markets are one of the biggest reasons for the increases.

But since Wall Street contributes heavily to politicians, they won't touch them with a ten foot pole.

2. I remember a parable about organic gardening.
A man asked an organic gardener how he kept the bugs off of his plants. The gardener replied "healthy plants don't attract bugs."

3. a farmer sells his product to the highest bidder and really doesn't
Give a rat's *** what you do with it. Considering that most farmers haven't made money in 10yrs ,give or take, how do they come up with this B.S that they are growing their grain for fuel instead of supplying us with food. The reason grain prices are high is because of cost inputs ,transportation cost, manipulation of the commodities markets , exports and the demand or ethanol. When they bitch about the farmer they shouldn't talk with their mouth full. I don't think that you're going to see many people giving up their job to get rich at farming. The U.S has had the lowest percentage of gross income going toward food in the world for the last 50 ,or so, years. Grain commodities tend to be an inelastic market and will level out over time.

5. Congressmen from both sides of the aisles
should point their fingers at themselves.
For reasons that should be obvious to anyone who has been following the decline of our civilization...

6. If the farmers have been dumping food (They have) in the last 5 years then yes
Bet some of them fucks feel REAL good about dumping milk now!

I have a serious problem with farmers that participate in price control systems like dumping milk and dumping food offshore to get prices up.

I want their subsidies pulled and them run out of business by people growing food in their yards and small farms for sell in market.

8. If only farmers could they would
Try taking a look at non-farm corporations who get government subsidies for NOT growing a crop! How about GE, GM etc.

Oil is the main culprit.

9. First of all, define 'farmers'

Big difference between the corps and the small operators. Also, look to where the big profits are generated, bet it ain't Ma & Pa Kettle....
