Inhofe Joins Southern Baptist Convention To Oppose Climate Action - It Would Hurt The Poor, You See
Edited on Fri May-16-08 12:32 PM by hatrack
WASHINGTON — Sen. Jim Inhofe joined religious leaders from the Southern Baptist General Convention and other groups on Thursday in asking Christians to sign a petition against global warming proposals that they say would hurt the poor. The "We Get It!” campaign launched Thursday encourages Christians to sign a statement that says stewardship of the environment should be based on biblical principles and "factual evidence.” It says "environmental policies must not further oppress the world's poor by denying them basic needs.”

Barrett Duke, vice president of the Ethics and Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, said the "science isn't settled” on global warming. He also said that "the poor will be hit hardest if we make energy and food more expensive.”

Inhofe, R-Tulsa, and others at a news conference, said evangelicals aren't as divided over the issue of global warming as the public might think.

But, clearly, there are some divisions, including on how best to serve the poor.

1. Based on biblical principles?
What does the bible say other than all this shit belong to you? Anything using the term biblically based should be laughed out of the room, only in this country and the other fundie regimes in the Middle East would this idiocy stand in the light of day.

I almost wish the fundie vision was true, the world would be so much nicer with these useless pricks raptured off to their nice little white bread cloud city.

Fuck Inhofe (R-asshole) and the rest of the Southern Baptist Convention.

2. So Inhofe has gone from saying "It ain't happening" to

"It's happening, but we can't do anything about it".

Well, Mr Inhofe, if it is happening now, it was happing 20 years ago when you were saying there's no such thing. When we COULD have done something about it.

You were wrong then, and you are wrong now. Coastal flooding, hurricanes, and decade long droughts will hurt the poor a lot more than any little tax increase targeted at alleviating climate change. In fact, the poor won't know about the tax increases, because the truly poor have a minimal tax burden - those who would feel it the most would be middle-class and higher - and THAT is what scares you.

3. I wish the 'liars for jesus' would stick to their false accusations about evolution...
Their idiocy hasn't done much to prevent the application of evolutionary principles in the advancement of science and medicine.

4. Here's the declaration.

:puke:

The We Get It! Declaration:

God Said It

God created everything. He made us in His own image, and commanded us to be fruitful and multiply and watch over His creation. Although separated from God by our sin, we are lovingly restored through Jesus Christ, and take responsibility for being good stewards.

We Get It

Our stewardship of creation must be based on Biblical principles and factual evidence. We face important environmental challenges, but must be cautious of claims that our planet is in peril from speculative dangers like man-made global warming.

They Need It

With billions suffering in poverty, environmental policies must not further oppress the world’s poor by denying them basic needs. Instead, we must help people fulfill their God-given potential as producers and stewards.

Let’s Do It

We will follow our Lord Jesus Christ and honor God as we use and share the principles of His Word to care for the poor and tend His creation.
