SHOCKER: Parkinson to Allow Construction of Coal Plant in Holcomb

At a just concluded press conference, Governor Mark Parkinson announced he has reached an agreement with Sunflower Electric Power Corporation that will allow for the construction of a brand new massive coal-fired power plant in Holcomb, Kansas.

Parkinson will allow air quality permit that had been blocked by Kansas Department of Heath and Human Services Secretary Rob Bremby to be issued, paving the way for the construction of one 895 megawatt plant- provided the Kansas Legislature passes a bill that provides for a laundry list of green energy law, including, but not limited to, workable net metering, revised renewable energy standards, and new energy efficiency standards.

For Sunflower's part, they only require the Legislature include in their legislation stipulations that make sure the Secretary of the Department of Health and Environment must be stripped of his power to ever again act as he did when he blocked the construction of the Holcomb plants in the first place.

5. I was afraid that he'd go back to being a Republican
when he became governor. Kathleen Sebelius had been holding back the Repuke forces, but no more.:(

7. Cap and trade will kill it economically in a decade.
Let them go down swinging. The infrastructure needed to work renewables is a big deal.
As much as this sucks, Sebelius will see a green energy Kansas by the time she gets back.

8. do you really believe that?
Cap and Trade has not been shown to be working for carbon, yet.

people will always choose electricity over rolling blackouts.

9. big Carbon boyz us and China
and neither are a Kyoto adherent.

Now is not 1996. Things, as they are, will not stand.
Don't believe me? Watch post Sri Lanka geopolitics.

Way before New York has a 20 meter sea wall, the world
will be much less forgiving.

Electricity <> Carbon pollutant by default.
We waste staggering amounts of energy currently world wide.
We only now are taking this all seriously. I was around for the mid seventies
spate of energy research.

This is different, not a political stunt to impress the Saudi King.
Yes, in short, I believe it will work to a greater extent than lesser.
