...Pearl Road Auto Parts and Wrecking, 5000 Pearl, is installing a 140-foot-high wind turbine to supply nearly 100 percent of the auto recycling yard's electricity. The 140-foot-tall turbine, just 10 feet shorter than the one at the Great Lakes Science Center, will be spinning by July at the fourth generation family owned business located next to Interstate 480.

Jon Kaplan, vice president of Pearl Road Auto, said he is doing his best to help the environment. But that's not the only reason why he's investing in the $295,000 project. The wind turbine will reduce his electricity demand by more than 100,000 kilowatt hours per year, allowing him to pay off the investment in just 6.3 years, he said.

With numbers like that, more businesses are likely to make similar investments in clean, green renewable energy. And considering the number of phone inquiries being made to Stephanie Spear, executive director of EcoWatch Ohio, additional wind turbines could soon be popping up on the landscape like daisies.

"I've been getting a lot of calls from northeast Ohio businesses," she said. Spear just started up a new consulting business, Expedite Renewable Energy, thanks to a $30,000 grant from the Cleveland Foundation's Civic Innovation Lab...

2. What a deal
If it spins for 20 years the guy is going to save over $600,000 at current rate for electricity!
