A Brazilian environmentalist has died after self-immolation in a protest against the construction of alcohol factories in the Pantanal marsh region. The 65-year-old Francisco Anselmo de Barros wrapped himself in an alcohol-soaked blanket and set it on fire during a protest Saturday in Campo Grande, 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) northwest of Rio de Janeiro.
Barros was president of the Foundation for Nature Conservation in Mato Grosso do Sul state, a group he founded in 1980. He was vehemently opposed to the sugar cane factories in the Pantanal, a vast wetland area covering portions of Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia that is renowned for its biological diversity -- especially its wildlife. After the Amazon rainforest, the Pantanal is one of the best known destinations for nature travelers and ecotourists in Brazil.

I have written about this case before, of course, because I actually learned what the Pantanal is from this very odd case.

I wrote about it in 2007, and the same fucking clueless people, about 75 billion tons of dangerous fossil fuel waste dumping later are
still giggling oblivious about their precious twirp cars and their precious twirp delusions about how ripping up every living thing on earth is worthwhile, so long as they can keep their cars.
In fact, the people in the car CULTs care more about their Rice Krispies than they care about the horrible frustration that lead to the despair of Francisco Anselmo de Barros and his fight against their worthless little crusade to save their suburban garages.
Worthless consumers, uneducated, oblivious, indifferent, and prone to very, very, very, very, very, very toxic selective attention.
I have
always hated the car CULTure myself, of course, and have zero respect for its apologists, including the ones who celebrate the destruction of the rain forests of the Amazon, the Pantanal, Sumatra with giggly expressions of glee and self delusion over the dumb idea that their cars can be saved, no matter what the cost, by grinding up and destroying ever larger amounts of natural habitat.
Their cars
cannot be saved and people are dying
right now because they have demanded that
only the best form of primary energy on earth be perfect while all the horseshit they ferment, and dangerous fossil fuels they greenwash, can kill at will.
Have a nice oblivious evening.
