Underwater Video of Oil Gushing into the Gulf of Mexico
Edited on Thu May-06-10 06:15 PM by Nathanael
BP (NYSE:BP) has released footage of their remote operating vehicle (ROV) successfully capping one of the three leaks that is pouring an estimated 5,000 barrels of oil a day into the waters off the Gulf of Mexico.

7. Blew my mind
I hadn't seen any footage of the leak itself, and this is just the small one.

2. Oil Is Just Flying Out

At about the 1:50 mark you can see just how fast the oil is flowing into the water. It is astonishing.

3. That looks really difficult
I'm glad there are people who know how to do that.

4. Actually, the people who have been trying to control the robots haven't succeeded until now.
AND they say it doesn't affect the amount of oil being released--just makes it easier to cap the other two leaks.

6. Of course it won't reduce the flow - that was the smallest of three known leaks
Sealing it will increase the pressure of the fluid at the other leaks, which will increase their respective flow rates.

5. Why does the cynical side of me think this was produced at Dreamworks?
Bah.

8. Nah. Probably produced by NASA at the same place where they shot the moon landing!
