Gov. Henry vetoes Oklahoma bill on nuclear power
Gov. Henry vetoes Oklahoma bill on nuclear power
OKLAHOMA CITY

Gov. Brad Henry has vetoed a bill that would have eased restrictions on nuclear power in Oklahoma.
Henry vetoed Senate Bill 2129 on Monday, saying the bill would "authorize actions that could serve as incentives for the construction of a nuclear power plant."
The bill would have removed from law a prohibition against the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority owning an interest in a nuclear generating plant. In his veto message, Henry says nuclear power may hold great promise for Oklahoma in the future, but says it would be more appropriate for the state to study the issue further before proceeding.

5. I'm smart. I worked in the industry with the environmental medical crew. I have a doctorate
the fact is that nuclear power emits dangerous radioactive pollution which is basically like a radioactive gulf oil plume poisoning the whole planet.

I particpated in NRC hearings and worked with some of the top antinuclear scientists (some of them engineers).

Pro-industry propaganda is just that: propaganda.

It is about as reliable as anything BP says about how much oil is spewing up into the Gulf of Mexico or anything the tobacco industry says about the safety of their chemicalized cigarettes/ Its lies, damn lies and murderous lies.

a "smart antinuke"?

ok

whatever

Nukes kill.

KJust like oil companies and coal companies.

Thing is, it mutates dna for humanity for eternity. It mutates our genes and kills babies in the womb.

so support it all you want.

But there is nothing smart about that.

It is suicidal.

7. If nuclear radiation is so bad, why does the EPA claim that living near coal...
...exposes you to more radiation than living near nuclear?

9. Link? Different types of radiation, for one thing, makes nuclear radiation more dangerous
All radiation can be dangerous - but the type of radionuclide is what makes the radiation have different impact on one's body, metabolism, dna, cells etc.

But I'd need to see your link before commenting on your post.

Natural radiation in coal or coal burning is dangerous but is NOT the same degree of harm or types of harm as the man made radionuclides (which do not occur in nature but are a byproduct of nuclear reactions in power plant operations).

Of course like anything the way you are exposed and extent of exposure is what determines the harm.

Natural background radiation is usually external and not ingested or breathed in. Nuclear radiation from power plants gets into air, food and water and thus into milk, grass, drinking water and produce and gets ingested (unlike the suns rays which hit us externally but which also cause damage).

Burning coal releases natural (not manufactured or man made) radiation into the air which we can breathe in. Since different radionuclides have differing half lives (time of decomposition and emissions of radiation) and thus if you ingest a calcium-type radiation (Stronium 90, say, emitted into the air and water during normal nuclear power plant operations) then it will be absorbed into the bones, teeth, and get into the bone marrow and stay there for decades or your entire life - as it decays it irradiates nearby cells and mutates them and their dna.

Thus while the overall AMOUNT of radiation emitted from a coal burning plant may be (I underscore MAY be) more compared to a given nuke facility, the IMPACT of that radiation is different.

Nuclear power plants create a nuclear cocktail of some 130 types of radionuclides many of which are "biocompatible" meaning they get absorbed into the organs and tissues where they cause defects, mutations, cancers and cell destruction. In foetuses they cause birth defects (which may be severe and obvious and cause death or extra limbs, etc. mongoloidism, hermaphroditism, etc or they may be a potentially deadly but hidden heart valve defect or arterial damage causing strokes or death later in life)

I have seen all of these in my experience working on these issues.

As for the EPA, I do not have any real confidence in them to tell us the truth just as I do not trust the NRC or the folks who regulate offshore drilling and coal mines. They are driven by money and politics, greed and deceit and are corruptible.

But for specifics on your question, I'd need a link and source.
