Tassie Salmon farms heading for hot water

On the move: Scientists warn that warmer waters may force some farms to relocate.
----------

cientists have warned Tasmanian salmon producers they may need to relocate their farms to cope with rising ocean temperatures. The temperatures off south-eastern Australia are expected to rise by up to two degrees over the next 40 years due to global warming.

Dr Alistair Hobday, from the CSIRO, says the forecast has huge implications for the salmon industry. "Most of the months in Tasmania the temperatures are really good, it's only during the summer that the temperature gets too warm for salmon," he said.

"Now there may be other locations around Tasmania that remain cooler and so businesses may move to those locations, they may move their cages deeper into the water."
