1. Why would the sealing grommet leak... I guess that's where the leak would be, when
I've heard most of the oil would be captured. Just curious if you know...

4. yes, that's right, but...
the seal isn't going to be perfect. chances are 50-70% of the oil removed if good.

3. well, imagine...
...putting a sucking straw over a gushing oil well that has a dynamic unpredictable flow, and then wonder how a) it will stay together and b) what it will be like to be on the ship, especially if there's a blowout of gas or weird stuff.

top hat already failed. this is something related. never been tried at depth.

*sigh*

root for the relief wells.
