Wind power that is practically invisible: Ridgeblade

How does it work?

The ridgeblade is a cross flow turbine fitted on the ridge line at the top of a building and uses the existing roof area to collect and focus the wind. This is where the wind is forced to travel over the roof surface, accelerating the airflow though the turbine. And whilst the unit is fixed to the roof and doesn’t turn to face the wind, the advanced blade design means that it works in 70% of wind directions.

Here is the best quote I've ever seen on a wind turbine website:
"In the past, small, urban wind generation systems have over promised when it comes to outputs, so we want to be absolutely certain that we are accurate when we release the output figures. That is why we are undertaking a large scale testing programme on multiple sites around the world."

Downside: it's not for sale yet and no price has been set.

2. Very interesting design
I think roof top wind generation makes sense and the roof can actually help divert increase usable wind for the turbine.

I was real interested in this design from Mag-Wind, but it appears that they may have been a vapor design company and their website no longer is online. Here's what the concept looked like: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/01/magwind_vertica.php

3. I'm sorry to hear they went under. MagLev wind turbines could be dominant if they big cash backers
IMO, of course. I'm using MagLev and VAWT synonymously since I've never heard of a turbine blade maglev wind generator.

Turbulence: standard turbines lose efficiency or break down
