GE Natural Gas Plant ‘Will Help Meet Renewable Goals’
GE has announced a “first-of-its-kind” natural gas power plant that rapidly ramps up and down in response to fluctuating output from wind and solar installations.

The FlexEfficiency 50, unveiled today in Paris, is a 510 MW combined cycle plant that offers fuel efficiency greater than 61 percent. GE says the plant’s biggest breakthrough lies in its ability to offer both flexibility and efficiency, while most power plants today offer one or the other. This ability is essential to large-scale, cost-effective integration of renewables into the grid, GE says.

“With global energy demand expected to double by 2030 and electricity generation accounting for 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, utilities and government bodies are taking a hard look at how to produce power more efficiently,” said Ricardo Cordoba, president of GE Energy for Western Europe and North Africa.

4. It isn't... But it makes additional renewables possible.
The idea is that, as renewables increase their penetration, this would only operate infrequently.

5. Renewable energy is intermittent, outputs can change rapidly, It fills the gaps.

Most of todays power plants can't respond fast enough.

7. I don't know...
maybe garbage decomposed by aerobic bacteria in oxygen free environments?

Then again, maybe that's just methane... which is natural gas, if I'm not mistaken.

2. There are ZERO "renewables will save us" types who don't depend on gas.
They are all gas bags, everyone of them, and they will be responsible for the destruction of humanity within one generation.

Have a nice fracking day.

6. Sadly...
I do hope you're wrong on that, but I tend to agree.

Maybe not all of humanity, but everything we recognize as our way of life.

3. I trust GE likeI trust Immelt
The word I heard <&/or read> was that he laid off 18 Thousand workers in the last go-round
of the Great Recession, & exported some 14 Thousand jobs.
