Libyans like to call it "the eighth wonder of the world".

The description might be flattering, but the Great Man-Made River Project has the potential to transform Libyan life in all sorts of ways.

Libya is a desert country, and finding fresh water has always been a problem.

I guess if it doesn't rain much and they've screwed their other aquifers they don't have a choice, but I'm really not convinced this is a great idea. Especially given one of the closing lines:

Of course, there are questions. No-one is sure how long the water will last.

(On a side note, why do the BBC have to each sentence in it own paragraph? Grr...)
