jobs in alternative energy?
Are there websites that post jobs in alternative energy fields, and/or offer training for people interested in that area? Esp. solar energy?

1. Rocky Grove Sun Company
was making solar panels here in the '80s. I think they are still around, but I don't know if they need any helpers now.

2. You might try these websites for training and jobs. . .

For jobs:
www.sustainablebusiness.com then click on "Green Dream Jobs".
(if not for the actual jobs listed, you can get the names of the companies/institutes hiring and do your own research, get their addresses, etc.)

For training:

Real Goods Solar Living Institute (Hopland, CA)
http://www.solarliving.org/index.cfm

Yestermorrow (Warren, VT)
www.yestermorrow.org

Solar Energy International (Carbondale, CO)
http://solarenergy.org/

(the above are just a few I can think of right off the bat)

Good luck and good hunting.

5. thanks, all...
I'm not really looking for a job right now. I'm lucky to have a good job. And like most academic institutions, it comes with excellent benefits and flexible working hours. But given our country's ridiculous spending priorities, basic research funded by NSF and NASA are taking a sickening hit, and I don't know how long I'll be able to stay in my field. So I'm trying to educate myself about what will be the most useful jobs in the future: sustainable living is going to be a big area for R&D in the next few decades, assuming we break free from the lunatics currently running the country.

I hope we see more threads about jobs and opportunities in sustainable living in this forum. We need to start thinking ahead about it now ... thanks to peak oil, there are big changes on the horizon, but most people don't see it. And many of us who do see it don't have any idea of how we can adapt to it and help society cope with the coming changes.

thanks!
shireen
