1. As a former Angeleno, I hope....
There is more discussion of transportation alternatives (light rail, subway, etc.) than you might normally find at one of these events. 20 to 30 years from now the far-flung suburbs will be ghost towns as the end of cheap fossil fuel rears its ugly head. There should be a light rail line running down the middle of every freeway in the L.A. area. They should re-open all the old Red Car lines, if any exist beyond the one that is being re-vitalized along Exposition from USC area to Culver City. I don't give a damn how much it costs! Save yourselves now!

2. Good news: LA opened the Orange Line, a metro bus express
line from Warner Center in the SF Valley to the Red Line subway station in N Hollywood on the old red car right of way across the valley.

I can hop on that (they have some nice big commuter parking lots for the Orange Line) and then transfer to the subway and go downtown and from there even to Long Beach, or Pasadena. We are getting real mass transit here, gradually. They are next going to extend the Red Line west from downtown all the way to SANTA MONICA so you can use it to go to the beach.

Thinking caps have finally been donned.

Oh, and our subway is gorgeous.

3. So are they actually solidifying the Red Line extension....
I had only heard rumors, for the most part, before I moved to Portland in June. I used to live in El Segundo and loved to ride the train to Hollywood to shop at Amoeba Music. Yes, the subway is great, it reminds me of Montreal's Metro.
