This is a contact letter that Senator Barbara Boxer sends out to her email list. It covers a lot of issues and I did not want to delete anything. I bolded the climate text.

Dear TBA, Change is in the air, and it's because the American people finally woke up to reality and decided that this reality is not what they want. It's hard to describe to you the vibrancy in the air in Washington D.C. now that real change is coming. Because of your help and generous Americans all over the country, the Congress is soon to be run by the Democrats and because of that, I will officially become the Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee. Even now, weeks before my title becomes official, I can report to you that the environment is back on the radar screen of this Congress and this country. After denying that Global Warming is a threat to be addressed and after refusing to reach out to any of us who want to get to work on carbon dioxin reductions, the White House contacted me the day after the election and said they are ready to talk. Now I know this is a VERY small step, but a step it is. This week I also got a welcome invitation to meet with British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the British Embassy along with three other colleagues -- Democrat and Republican. The discussion was intense and the consensus was that the Prime Minister was the one world leader who could convince President Bush to move toward some kind of responsible action on Global Warming. The good news is that he is intending to do just that.
I will stay in touch with you as I start the very FIRST comprehensive hearings on the solutions to global warming, which has been described by our Pentagon as a looming threat to world stability. Now to the issue that is hanging like a cloud over our nation -- Iraq. In very forceful language, the Iraq Study Group basically said what we have known for a very long time: that Iraq is a disaster. What is interesting is that the Iraq Study Group is composed almost exclusively of those who are center-right on the political spectrum and yet, many of their ideas were taken from Democratic members of Congress like Carl Levin and Jack Murtha. Predictably, the right wing has gone ballistic. I've never seen anything like it. Let me tell you that the best vote I ever cast was against this war. And now, I am working closely with Russ Feingold to continue to push for an end date and redeployment -- now. To that end, today I delivered a petition signed by 55,000 Americans, calling on the President to start bringing the troops home. If one of those signatures was yours, thank you so much. We cannot let up. We cannot be silent or quiet or muted while this President remains stubborn and more and more die or get wounded and lose their future. So thank you again for everything. For helping the PAC with funds; for standing by me; for signing the latest petition on the war and for what you will do as we stand together for a better country and a better world.
Best,
Barbara
