What do you do in times like these? I HELP
From the feckless pen of GliderGuider comes another breathless scribble.

When people ask me what they should do personally to prepare for the coming changes, I offer a simple (and I think, catchy) acronym: I HELP. Here’s what it stands for:

I: Involvement

H: Humanize
E: Economize
L: Localize
P: Produce

Here is how it works:

1. Nice.

Let's see.

Involvement: I'm not involved enough, and can change that.

Humanize: I'm always working on this part.

Economize: I've got down pat. For instance, electric bill under $20.00 a month, and dropping. I've been teaching people how to cut their power use and how to make better choices. My watt-meter is currently on loan to somebody who is trying to cut their bill by 50%.

Localize: I sold my house, and moved to within 5 miles of where I need to be every day.

Produce: I can't do this one. I'm currently renting an apartment, and have nowhere to grow anything. So, I'm doing my reading, and if I can find a new place to live that allows onsite power generation and a vegetable garden, I'm there.

6. Is there a community garden where you are? Here in Los Angeles
the city Parks and Recreation Dept runs a number of local gardening centers. I had a couple of plots for years, and they cost $20 a YEAR for a plot that was, IIRC, about 200 sf. They provided once-a-week overhead watering, and all the rest was up to the individual gardeners. For years I grew most of my own veggies.

Once I get moved back into an apartment (I have been in a house rental for 7 1/2 years) I may very well get a plot again.

2. It's a Scientology thing
IHELP -- the International Hubbard Ecclesiastical League of Pastors.

I like your version much better, but PHILE or LIPHE might be preferable.
