Janjalani’s lair bombarded - Philippines
The military has been bombarding for three days now strategic spots in the hinterlands of Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat to flush out Abu Sayyaf chieftain Khadafy Janjalani and his followers who were last sighted hiding in a network of caves there.

The Army’s 6th Infantry Division, however, said the artillery fire was aimed only at selected targets, carefully plotted to prevent villagers from being displaced.

The renewed military offensive against Janjalani’s group which escaped to Sultan Kudarat last July to elude soldiers pursuing them in the Zamboanga peninsula, came a week after the arrest in Palimbang of two Abu Sayyaf members, who gave information on their leader’s whereabouts.

"We have enlisted the help of religious leaders in Palimbang and surrounding towns to help us locate Janjalani and his men," said Maj. Gen. Generoso Senga, 6th ID commander.
