Bulgarians were scheduled to begin choosing municipal leaders yesterday in an election seen as a test for the nation's political stability after two years of reforms implemented by the center-right government.
The results were expected to forecast how much popular support the governing coalition will have for the second half of its four-year term. Prime Minister Simeon Saxcoburggotski and his National Movement have suffered a dramatic loss of popularity in the last two years.
Should the former king's party get as little of the vote as predicted in recent polls - about 12 percent - analysts say discussions about early parliamentary elections are likely.
