Rumsfeld speech to troops: "I'm a survivor!"

Right after his "I quit reading newspapers" statement, there was some "seed" applause, which grew among the (supposedly) hand-picked audience. A few seconds, and the applause was wild.

Right after this rimjob, Rumsfeld stated: "I'm a survivor!"

Hesitant, tepid applause. Did the soundbyte cut off the "growing enthusiastic applause", or did it cut off the "tepid response"?
