Gandhi to take office on Wednesday
Indian prime minister-elect Sonia Gandhi and her government will probably be sworn in on Wednesday after a hectic weekend sealing deals with allies and new partners.

Italian-born Gandhi will meet President Abd al-Kalam on Monday armed with letters of support from several parties to stake her claim to government after ousting the ruling Hindu nationalists in India's biggest election upset last week.

Leftist parties, which won a pivotal 60-plus seats in the election have pledged their support for Gandhi, but were debating on Sunday whether to formally join her coalition or simply back it from outside.

The communists are also discussing a joint economic policy with an eye to reassuring investors after the rupee and shares crashed on Friday to their lowest in months.

"...Italian-born Gandhi will meet President Abd al-Kalam on Monday armed with letters of support from several parties to stake her claim to government after ousting the ruling Hindu nationalists in India's biggest election upset last week..."

From a Right wing Hindu government to one headed by a woman from Italy (with Christian background), and a President who is muslim...

3. It was a rhetorical question...
...lemme ask you couple more:

Are all BJP (including Vajpayee) extreme?

If USA gets a female muslim President from Iraq, will that be extreme?

:)

I am just interested in getting comments from some posters here, who were painting Indians (yes, all Indians) as right wing Hindu fascists. I wonder if this election will shut them up....
