Bullet trains arrive in Kaohsiung - TW
By Jessie Ho
STAFF REPORTER , IN KAOHSIUNG
Wednesday, May 26, 2004,Page 1

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp (THSRC) celebrated the arrival of its first batch of bullet trains at Kaohsiung Port yesterday.

"We're so excited about the coming of Taiwan's first high-speed trains, and we are confident that we can begin service as scheduled," THSRC chairwoman Nita Ing (??) said during a ceremony at the port yesterday.

Two 700-T locomotives and 10 carriages arrived Monday night, with a combined length of 304m and combined weight of 503 tonnes. The units left Kobe, Japan, on May 18.

The company has ordered 30 sets of bullet trains from Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

I grew up in Chicago in a car culture. Everything happened with a car, I love them. I took 3 trips long trips on Amtrak and loved them. Then I moved overseas and just learned to love more public transportation. Fast trains are the greatest. I feel our country is being left behind by what will become more advanced civilizations.

instead we should be 'the shining city on the hill'

at least 2 decades of little, if any, progress ... the infrastructure suffers because of poor priorities and corporate control of the agenda

I'm guessing that there isn't a bullet train between Phoenix and San Diego because Southwest Airlines don't want one ...
