"A Morgan State University senior was fatally shot in Timonium early yesterday after leaving a party at a bowling alley.
Lorenzo Roc Hardy III, 23, was killed during an argument outside AMF Timonium Lanes, in the 2100 block of York Road, police said. He was shot once in the upper chest by an unknown man who then fled, police said. "

Livingston, 42, was arrested in September after his wife complained that, despite her pleading, Livingston continued to bring the gun into their house............

.......Livingston called police Sept. 7 to report the gun missing after his wife, Kimberly Armstrong, hid it in the garage to keep it from the children. Their 2-year-old son found the gun, with four bullets in the magazine, and took it to his mother.........

Gun-law changes snare police veteran

Because of a 1959 arson, a Bucks County officer may lose his job. He seeks an exemption.

A mistake as a youth in the 1950s could cost Upper Southampton police Lt. David Johnson his job.

An arson conviction in 1959 didn't keep Johnson from joining the force in 1966. He even disclosed the conviction when applying for the job.

But since then, gun laws have changed and his felony record makes it illegal for him to carry a firearm. State police notified township officials in August after Johnson applied for access to a state computer network.

If he can't carry a gun, Johnson, 62, can't fulfill his duties as a police officer. He was put on unpaid leave Aug. 4 and forced to use up vacation days until his case is resolved in Bucks County Court. He has petitioned for relief from the state's Uniform Firearms Act. A hearing is scheduled Friday.

I could understand a lifetam ban on gun ownership if the guy's 1959 conviction was for armed robbery or assault. But arson seems a bit different....

and much more dangerous a felony than, say, drug possession of 15 hits of acid...

This week's shooting of a San Antonio police officer with a high-powered AK-47 highlights the issue.

The shooter, a convicted felon, should not have had access to the gun.

Gun control advocates support a new bill that will help prevent felons, illegal immigrants and others from getting guns.

Even the National Rifle Association and gun rights backers support the bill.

That, in case you hadn't heard, is the age of the latest child at the center of the latest tragic shooting.

Too young for kindergarten, too young to tie his own shoes, too young for bikes without training wheels. But old enough to stand behind a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and squeeze the trigger.

It happened just over a week ago in Palmer Park, Md., a suburb of Washington. According to a published report, 10-year old Katina Brice was home baby-sitting her younger siblings while their parents were out when she saw that the youngest child had somehow gotten hold of the gun. Katina smartly decided to usher Gregory, who was 7, and Kimberly, who was 5, out of the house.

But it didn't help.

ALAMEDA, CALIF. – There is an inherent hypocrisy in Arnold Schwarzenegger's recent announcement of support for gun control when he has given the opposite message to millions of people throughout his acting career. Isn't it time for this candidate, and Hollywood in general, to come clean about how their movies contribute to gun marketing in the United States?

A survey of Arnold's movies shows him carrying a huge array of firepower - Desert Eagle pistols, Winchester shotguns, GE Miniguns, Glock handguns, and dozens of others. These are real guns, many of which movie viewers can buy in their local gun store, at a gun show, or on the Internet.

Research shows that people, especially young people, do indeed buy the guns they see in the movies. Schwarzenegger's message not only is violent, but also provides very real propaganda for the gun industry. "You don't have to look very far to find examples of how movie and television portrayals of guns have boosted sales of those guns," say Tom Diaz, senior policy analyst at the Violence Policy Center.

The gun industry received a first taste of Hollywood's selling power in the early 1970s. Smith & Wesson's .44 Magnum was at risk of being discontinued for lack of sales. When it was featured prominently by Clint Eastwood in the film "Dirty Harry," the gun "enjoyed a massive burst of popularity," according to the magazine American Rifleman.

Council in Cape to vote on ban for guns

Those packing concealed weapons won't be able to do so legally in Cape Girardeau's city hall or any other city-owned or operated buildings under a proposal that the council will vote on tonight.

The city council is scheduled to vote Monday night on the first reading of an ordinance that would place city buildings off limits to those carrying concealed weapons. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at city hall.

Police and city officials admit the municipal ordinance, allowed under Missouri's new law legalizing concealed weapons, won't guarantee safer government buildings. But they said it could help keep honest residents from bringing guns in the buildings.

"It seems logical that you shouldn't have concealed weapons in a courtroom or city council chamber," said city manager Doug Leslie. "Unfortunately, it is wide open unless you pass an ordinance and post it on your facilities."

22 Guns Stolen From Area Store

Nearly two dozen guns are missing after a break-in at an area sporting goods store.

Alcoa police officers responded to Wynn's Sporting Goods in New Midland Plaza just before 4:00am Saturday morning. Officers found the front window broken, but they believe whoever stole the guns went into the store through a side door.

The thief or thieves then forced open two locked cases and took 22 handguns.

Guns From Home Of Santana High Shooter Ordered Destroyed

Father Of Santana High Shooter Declared Negligent

SAN DIEGO -- Six rifles seized from the home of Charles "Andy" Williams after he fatally shot two students and wounded 13 others at Santana High School in 2001 were ordered destroyed.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that San Diego Superior Court Judge Herbert Exharos denied the request of Jeff Williams -- Andy's father -- for the guns to be returned. Exharos ordered the guns be destroyed.

"Legally, they are completely interconnected with the Andy Williams case," prosecutor Kris Anton told the judge during a hearing Friday.

The gun the boy used in the shooting was kept in the same case.

Woman guns down 2 then herself in Atlanta church

ATLANTA — A woman opened fired at an Atlanta church this morning, killing the pastor and one other person before shooting herself, police said.

The shooting happened before morning services started, between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., Lieut. Randall Robinson said. There may have been some kind of church gathering at that time, he said.

Robinson said one of the dead was Rev. J.C. Reynolds, pastor of Turner Monumental A.M.E. church in the Kirkwood neighbourhood, on Atlanta's east side.

He said the shooter was also dead. He did not have any details about the other victim.

Police say 14-year-old was shot over $20 debt

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 14-year-old North Philadelphia youth was shot to death, apparently over a $20 debt, after he opened his family's front door, authorities said.

Michael Keel, a seventh-grader at James Elverson Middle School who was already over 6 feet tall and dreamed of playing pro basketball, was shot in the face and chest after someone pounded on the door of the home about 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police arrested Raymond Herbert, 19, and charged him with the killing.

The shooting apparently stemmed from a $20 debt owed to Herbert by one of Keel's brothers, police said.

Jeez, I thought these threads would be overwhelmed by the examples of people defending life, liberty, property, and apple pie with their guns. Could it be that those examples are so few and far between that they can only get re-hashed on a monthly basis in the NRA magazines? I'm disappointed.

I get the stories I post by going to the "News" page on Google and searching for words such as "gun", "guns", "shot", and "shooting". And them I post the stories I find that were posted to the 'Net within the previous 24 hours.

What's really interesting is that I haven't found a SINGLE STORY where a homeowner used his gun to kill or injure an intruder, or any of the other "defensive" uses the pro-gunners talk about. With the millions of defensive uses they claim occur each year, you would thing Google would be able to find one or two each day.....

Or are the pro-gunners gonna try to tell us that Google is owned by VPDC, HCI, and the Brady Center??????
